Speedmaster First Omega in Space
R.310.30.40.50.06.001
∅ 39,7 mm
Description
On October 3rd, 1962, the OMEGA Speedmaster CK 2998 became the first OMEGA worn in space when astronaut Walter Schirra chose it for the Sigma 7 mission of the Mercury programme. This modern interpretation pays homage to that pioneering timepiece, capturing the essence of the 2nd generation Speedmaster design.
The 39.70 mm case, crafted in polished and brushed stainless steel, is paired with a flat links bracelet featuring OMEGA’s patented comfort adjustment system. The bezel ring, made of black aluminium, displays the iconic tachymeter scale with the distinctive “Dot Over Ninety” marking.
Under the hesalite-like sapphire crystal, the grey-blue dial, coated with CVD technology, reflects the tone of select CK 2998 models from the 1960s. The indexes and “Alpha” hands are filled with vintage Super-LumiNova, while the white varnished central seconds hand complements the printed markers. The watch also features three subdials: a 30-minute recorder at 3 o’clock, a 12-hour recorder at 6 o’clock, and a small seconds display at 9 o’clock.
Vintage details include an OMEGA logo on both the dial and crown, while the caseback showcases the renowned Seahorse medallion, engraved with “THE FIRST OMEGA IN SPACE” and “OCTOBER 3, 1962”.
Powered by the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861, this movement represents the latest evolution of the Calibre 321, famously worn by astronauts. Each timepiece is presented in a special box that includes a “LEGENDARY MOONWATCH” booklet, making it a must-have for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
